Breast MRI and MRI Guided Biopsy
Magnetic resonance imaging, also called MRI, is a noninvasive and typically painless medical test. It uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures. The images can then be examined on a computer monitor or printed.

MRI of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that cannot be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound. The MRI of the breast is a supplemental tool for detecting and staging breast cancer and other breast abnormalities.

A breast biopsy involves removing some cells from an area in question in the breast and examining them under a microscope. In MRI guided breast biopsy, MRI is used to help guide the radiologist’s instruments. The procedure is less invasive than surgical biopsy and requires only a local anesthetic.
